Geo-Energie Suisse AG is developing pilot projects for geothermal electricity production in Haute-Sorne (Canton Jura), Etzwilen (Cantons Thurgau and Zurich), Avenches (Canton Vaud), Triengen and Pfaffnau (Canton Lucerne). The project in Haute-Sorne is the most advanced. The five sites were selected from a list of around 130 potential sites based on various criteria (geology, seismic risk, spatial planning, existing infrastructure, legal framework, etc.). Since 2017, Geo-Energie Suisse AG has also been evaluating further sites in the Alpine region and is developing a geothermal energy project in the city of Bern on behalf of Energie Wasser Bern.
