Preparation Starts for the Haute-Sorne Project

Current Phase: Site Preparation

Work has officially begun to set up the drill site for the Haute-Sorne geothermal project.
This current phase consists entirely of preparatory, standard construction tasks, such as soil removal, excavating, paving, and concreting.
The actual drilling will not commence until spring 2024.

Contractor and Local Impact

An experienced company from the Jura region has been commissioned to carry out the work.
To ensure the comfort and safety of local residents, all construction-related disruptions (such as noise and traffic) are being kept to an absolute minimum during standard working hours.
Strict environmental monitoring is already active to protect local water, air, soil, and biodiversity.

Project Timeline

Now – April 2024: Preparatory construction work takes place.

Spring 2024: The vertical exploration drilling begins.

Late 2025: Expected conclusion of the project's exploration phase.

Future Development: The results gathered during this exploration phase will dictate how the project proceeds moving forward.

Geo-Energie Suisse SA is the Swiss centre of expertise in deep geothermal energy for the production of electricity and heat. The company was founded in November 2010. Its founding members include municipal utilities and regional energy suppliers from across Switzerland (aet, EBL, ewz, EOS, ewb, GVM, iwb). Geo-Energie Suisse SA employs around twenty staff and is also supported on an ad hoc basis by external specialists.

Geo-Energie Jura SA is a public limited company founded in 2015. Its shareholders are Geo-Energie Suisse SA, ebl, ewb and ewz. The company’s objective is to develop and subsequently operate the Haute-Sorne geothermal project. Under a tripartite agreement drawn up in June 2015 between the municipality of Haute-Sorne, the canton of Jura and Geo-Energie Suisse, the company is registered in the municipality of Haute-Sorne.
